Darlo 'Connects to Reading' as part of 2014 Book Week Celebrations.

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. This year's theme Connect to Reading is about enjoying the experience of exploring story, and travelling to other worlds. At DPS we are exploring the theme, Connect to Reading in a number of ways including:

  • An author visit by picture book author Tina Matthews
  • Engagement in the Premier's Reading Challenge (170 students have already completed the challenge)
  • Hosting a Book Fair in partnership with Potts Point Book Shop
  • Celebrating with a Book Character Costume Parade. This has been rescheduled to Thursday 28 August due to this week's weather (Updated information is included in this newsletter).

Mr Ogilvie is thanked for ‘connecting us to reading' throughout Book Week. Mr O's hard work and dedication to make Book Week at Darlo something engaging for all students is appreciated by all of us...

Thanks to Pott Point Book Shop for working in partnership with DPS to organise the author visit, Book Fair and the costume of our Book Week Character parade's  main attraction!
