Student opportunities and activities
Dance at Darlinghurst Public School
Darlinghurst Public School offers a rich and diverse dance curriculum for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, delivered both within PDHPE and as a specialist program.
Music at Darlinghurst Public School
Music is a core focus at Darlinghurst PS, with a whole-school program that engages every student in rich, challenging repertoire. Lessons are guided by the NSW Quality Teaching Framework and Orff Schulwerk educational philosophy, ensuring music is both academically rigorous and creatively inspiring.
Classroom Music
Instruments such as marimbas, metallophones, and xylophones—funded through grants and school contributions—enhance classroom learning. Students develop composition, arrangement, and performance skills, culminating in an End of Year Concert that celebrates their growth and creativity.
Visiting performers enrich the program, with highlights including:
- Musica Viva in Schools – The Song Company and West African percussion ensemble Teranga.
- Sydney Symphony Education Program – engaging students K–6 in the history, sound, and artistry of orchestral music.
Co-Curricular Music
Our co-curricular music program continues to thrive:
- Band Program – 68% of Years 3–6 students participate, with both Junior and Senior Bands established to meet student needs. Highlights include the Beginner Band Bash and workshops with Sydney’s Sirens Big Band.
- Private Lessons – Nine professional tutors deliver over 70 lessons weekly, offering students access to high-quality instrumental training.
- Choir – With 34% of Years 3–6 students involved, the choir rehearses twice a week and performs at school events and charity galas, including the Sydney Town Hall Celebration Charity Fundraiser Concert.
